Today we will be looking at the Smok Nord 4, this is a fairly new Pod Vape kit that has recently become very popular. It was released by Smok in November 2020, must of us have been a little confused as we were aware of the original Smok Nord and the Smok Nord 4 but why is there no Smok Nord 3? Have they really produced a new vape device that is so good it deserves skipping a version?

Nord 4 Appearance and Design
Unboxing the Nord 4 you can appreciate the design of it and the build looks like it is a good quality. It is slightly larger than its predecessors and it is heavier than other Pod devices but in a good way. I prefer devices with a bit of weight behind it, ultra light devices I find are very easy to drop. It sits nicely in your hand and when using the device the button is in the perfect position for hitting the fire button.
Talking about dropping devices, we always panic when we drop a device, as we have no idea whether it’s going to work. I did do a few drop tests to see how it would cope and I can happily say that it did survive, I wouldn’t recommend doing this on purpose but it’s good to know other than a few scratches and dents, it will still work. As it is comfortable to hold, you won’t have to worry about it slipping out of your hands.
As you can see it has a single firing button and within the button is a small LED battery life indicator. On the other side of the device you will find the OLED display screen which displays the normal stats like the battery life, wattage, resistance and even a puff counter so you can keep track of your usage.
On the sides of the device you will see the adjustable airflow wheels, this allows you to open up which helps with the draw when inhaling. I would recommend fully opening these when using the 0.16 ohm DTL coils. We will talk about the compatible coils shortly.

SMOK Nord 4 Replacement Pods
I like that they have kept the same design for the Smok Nord 4 Pods, they are clear plastic with a built in plastic drip tip. Replacing the coil is very simple with this pod too and let’s not forget that
There is no need to throw away the pods for the Nord, once a coil needs replacing, all you need to do is pull the old one out and insert a new one. Cleaning the Pod is also very simple, after removing the coil you can just rinse or soak in water.
You can buy replacement pods if you’re someone that likes to have different flavours but don’t want flavours mixing. The kit comes with two pods and two coils, the SMOK Nord 4 RPM 2 pod with a 0.16ohm DTL mesh coil and a SMOK Nord 4 RPM pod with a 0.4ohm MTL coil.
SMOK Nord 4 Replacement Coils
As I previously mentioned that Nord 4 comes with RPM 2 pod and a RPM pod. The RPM pod is compatible with other RPM coils and the RPM 2 pod is compatible with other RPM 2 coils.
The RPM 2 Mesh 0.16ohm Coil is recommended to use between 25-55w. We would recommend to use the device at 40w with these coils to get the best flavour. These are designed for direct to lung vaping (DTL), offering intense flavour and dense vapour.
The RPM mesh 0.4ohm coil is designed for mouth to lung vaping, providing a satisfying flavour and gentle throat hit.
There are other coils with different ohms levels that can be used with the device.
SMOK RPM Replacement Pod Coils
- RPM Mesh 0.4ohm Coils - Flavoursome Sub-Ohm
- RPM Triple 0.6ohm Coils - Fast Ramp Sub-Ohm
- RPM Quartz 1.2ohm - Mouth To Lung
- RPM SC 1.0ohm - Mouth To Lung
- RPM MTL Mesh 0.3ohm - Sub-Ohm Mouth To Lung
- RPM DC 0.8ohm - Dual Mouth To Lung Coils
- RPM RBA Coil - DIY build deck to add your own custom coils
SMOK RPM-2 Coils
- RPM-2 Mesh 0.16ohm Coils - Dense Vapor Sub Ohm
SMOK Nord 4 Battery Performance
On the bottom of the device is the charging port, this is the Type-C USB charging port. One of the best selling points of this particular device in my opinion is the large 2000mAh battery. Compared to other Pod systems this is an impressive battery and if you’re vaping at low-medium wattage the battery life is great.
As the Nord 4 can be used up to 80w, the battery life would be affected by this. If you’re vaping at a higher wattage than you do sacrifice some of the battery. Though the Nord 4 does have pass through capability which means you can vape while your device is charging. So if you are caught short when you’re out and about, if you carry an external battery charger, you can always plug it in to charge and keep vaping.
The OLED display screen does show remaining battery life and whilst charging it will tell you how long is left till it is fully charged. Typically it can take up to 80 minutes to fully charge this device.
How to fill the SMOK Nord 4?
To make things easier both the RPM and the RPM 2 pods are filled in exactly the same way. All you need to do is pull the pod to remove it from the device, flip open the red rubber plug on the side and you can start filling it up. As the plastic is clear you can easily keep an eye on the level too.
Once you have filled the pod you simply push the rubber plug back in, just make sure it is secure as if it’s not in there tight, it will very likely leak everywhere. Insert the pod back into your device and we would recommend leaving it for a couple of minutes so that your juice soaks into the coil properly, this should prevent a dry hit.
My Final Thoughts
Overall, I’m really impressed with the SMOK Nord 4, it has a great battery life. It’s very simple to replace coils and to refill the pods. The vapour production is great and there’s no loss of flavour from this and there’s plenty of choices when it comes to the design of the device. It’s a solid vape with a well built design.
I think this device would suit any vaper that is looking for a versatile device. It has the capability of creating clouds and also for Mouth to lung vaping. If you already have this device let us know your thoughts on this below.

Can’t wait to see next version of Nord device, because this one has a big problem with leaking, apart that I love it to bits! Easy to use, nice colours, quick charging time and long lasting battery, BUT this leaking problem is really annoying and I hope next device will not have it!

I think I have the best setup on the leaks and how to be found. All you’ve got to do is put a little toilet tissue down in there and it will absorb on the two ends where you see the hollow holes. I put silicone in there so it couldn’t get down into the device. I have vape covers along with a tile hook to it

I have the Nord 4 for 4 months already. At first, it seemed quiet nice, but at this point, I just want to get rid of it. For the first 2 months it was great. But after those 2 months, it always started to spit out juice, leaking. I tried changing the capsule, but it didn’t help. The coils started to give up pretty quickly. In the past 2 months, I had to change the coil (the bigger one) 6 times every 1-2 weeks and it didn’t help at all. I don’t know if I just received this bad one, but I would just rather pick another vape instead. Also, the same thing happened with 2 friends, who bought it 2 months ago.

Got given a Nord 4 for Christmas. Very happy with it. I am a heavy smoker but haven’t felt the need for a cigarette since starting using it.

I started with the Smok little Prince and was wholly unimpressed by the leakage and how delicate the tank was. I was constantly replacing and the leakage meant I was replenishing juice 4/5 times a day.
I just switched to the Nord 4 and it’s perfect!
Really happy with the sleek design it’s light and not as bulky as the earlier Smok models. No leakage, and it appears pretty sturdy. Good price easy to use.

I just bought mine about a month ago I love it. I’m using it to try and quit smoking. I’m down to 4 cigarettes a day and working on getting rid of them all together.
